The People Behind the Program
At BRC, we take coaching seriously. Every coach at BRC is a USA Swimming Certified Swim Coach, trained in Lifeguarding and CPR/AED. BRC funds continual ongoing education for our coaches to ensure that every swimmer gets what they need to achieve their goals in a safe, supportive environment.
BRC Owner / Abyss Coach
Stanzi McGowan, formerly Stanzi Moseley, is the owner of Bakersfield Race Club and Head Coach of the Abyss Group. A Bakersfield native, Stanzi has spent 24 years in the sport and has competed at nearly every level of swimming, from local recreational meets to Junior Nationals, Team USA international competition, NCAA Championships, and the 2016 Olympic Trials.
As a club swimmer in Bakersfield, Stanzi qualified for Junior Nationals and Nationals, won the 200 freestyle at Long Course Junior Nationals, swept her events at Short Course Junior Nationals in 2014, and represented Team USA at both the Junior Pan Pacific Championships and Junior World Championships. She was also part of a Junior World Record-setting relay team.
Stanzi began her collegiate career at the University of Southern California before transferring to the University of Tennessee, where she became a 15-time All-American and helped lead the Lady Volunteers to their first-ever SEC Championship.
After her competitive career, Stanzi developed professional experience in athletics administration, NCAA compliance, and recruiting. Bakersfield Race Club represents the fulfillment of a lifelong goal: to build a high-performance USA Swimming club rooted in her love for the sport and her loyalty to the Bakersfield swimming community.
