Join the ClubStanzi McGowan (formerly Moseley) is the owner and founder of Bakersfield Race Club, as well as the head coach of the Abyss (Elite) Group. She has been swimming for 24 years, and has been competitive at almost every level of the sport. BRC represents the culmination of a lifelong goal of owning and directing a USA Swim Club, a passion for the sport of Swimming, and a deep loyalty to the Bakersfield Swim Community.
Early Days
Stanzi started early with swimming, competing as a 4 year old for her first season with the Aqua Aces Recreational team, practicing at the Greenacres Pool in Bakersfield. At the end of the season, her parents quickly realized that club swimming was in her future, as she was distraught at the idea of waiting until the following summer to race again.
Stanzi, the oldest of 7 siblings, swam with Bakersfield Swim Club, Bakersfield Aquatics Club, and Roadrunner Aquatics, where she went on to qualify for Junior Nationals, Nationals, taking first place in the 200 Free at her second Long Course Junior Nationals, and sweeping her events at Short Course Junior Nationals in 2014.
Team USA
The summer of 2014, Stanzi was selected for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships team, traveling to Maui where she was part of a Junior World Record-setting relay team. The following summer, she made the Junior World Championship Team, traveling again with Team USA to Singapore. Her club swimming career culminated in participation at the 2016 Olympic Trials. Ten years later, Stanzi remains a multiple club record holder on the Roadrunner Aquatics board.
Collegiate Career
Stanzi entered her collegiate career as the 4th ranked female sprinter in her national recruiting class. As a freshman, she attended the University of Southern California on a full scholarship, and qualified for NCAA championships as a freshman. Following her freshman year, she transferred to the University of Tennessee—again on a full scholarship—where she would go on to achieve 15-time Division I All-American status and qualify for NCAA championships.
Her senior year, she played a crucial role in the Lady Volunteers' first-ever SEC Championship, and also anchored the 4x100 medley relay to a first place finish against a stacked field.
Back Home
Following collegiate swimming, Stanzi has worked in athletics administration, developing expertise in NCAA compliance and recruiting. She brings all of this back to the pool as the owner and director of Bakersfield Race Club, with the goal of building something truly amazing in her hometown.
Looking ahead to the future of Bakersfield swimming, Bakersfield Race Club will bring a new energy, higher standards, and citywide partnerships together with the goal of elevating swimming throughout Central California to a new level.
